Summary

A lack of patient engagement is a significant and costly, yet remediable, risk.

This white paper is part of our series A Dose of Insight®.

When patients aren’t engaged in their own healthcare or don’t comply with treatment recommendations, outcomes can suffer and liability claims can result. Data and research support the premise that a lack of patient engagement is a significant and costly, yet remediable, risk.

The Coverys team evaluated 6,050 events from five years of closed malpractice claims and identified specific events where a lack of patient engagement was a significant factor in the alleged medical error. These findings are outlined in this report.

In addition to the data, this report explores the reasons behind noncompliance and offers solutions that can be used to increase patient engagement and activation for improved outcomes.
