Dana Siegal is vice president of risk management and analytics at Coverys. She is a passionate risk management and patient safety advocate with more than 30 years of healthcare risk management experience. With a background in theater arts, she is well known for her dynamic educational programs on healthcare risk, error reduction, and patient safety culture. Dana’s programs are founded in the insights gleaned from the analysis of malpractice claims data, clinical risk assessments, and case studies. 
 
Prior to joining Coverys, Dana served as director of patient safety at CRICO Candello where she provided leadership to the development and data governance of a collaborative database of nearly 460,000 medical malpractice claims from medical professional liability insurers across the county. She has extensive experience in the development of coding taxonomies for and analysis of data to gain insight into what drives error in healthcare and recommended solutions to reduce risk and improve patient safety.
  
Dana also has many years of front-line hospital risk management experience overseeing all aspects of incident reporting and sentinel event management, including: root cause analysis, apology and disclosure, credentialing, physician peer review, staff and media intervention, and litigation preparation and support. Dana has worked closely with clinicians and administrators on policy development and process improvement for numerous QI initiatives and JCAHO reviews, as well as NCQA initiatives for large HMOs and clinical and financial risk management for physician practice groups (IPAs and PHOs).  

Dana attended Lawrence Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and Northeastern University and holds CPHRM and CPPS certifications. She is also certified in TEAMStepps Team Training and has completed train-the-trainer programs in leadership, conflict management, facilitation and negotiation skills, and apology and disclosure.  

Throughout her career, Dana has authored numerous articles and publications and has served on the board for the Society for Improvement in Diagnostic Medicine (SIDM) and the American Society for Health Care Risk Management (ASHRM) Journal Peer Review. She currently serves on the board for the MA Coalition for Prevention of Medial Error, the IHI Diagnostic Excellence Advisory Group, the SIDM Practice Improvement Committee, and is a member of the Hospital Insurance Forum (HIF) annual faculty and planning committee.
